Scaling Graphs

Today in class I created a graph through Kidz Zone to express the reading level differences in the state of West Virginia versus the national standards. I compared the state and national levels for the years 2005, 2007, and 2009. After we created the graph we uploaded into our google documents, saved it, and published it as a webpage.

Wednesday, March 24th -- No class Friday! :)

In class we did a group activity that helped us better understand the different "roles" in the collaboritive group projects for our lesson plans. We each had different roles in the group to look at the various websites to look at them from a different aspects. Such as checking for the content, time efficicency, and I was the person that looked that at it from a technological standpoint. I was looking at the websites to see if the layouts were attractive, if the activities seemed interesting, and if the person who created the websites made sure to integrate alot of technology. We have no class on Friday and are supposed to continue working on our Webquests and be thinking about answering the questions we want to ask in our lessons.

Is the glass half full or half empty?

When deciding how to answer the question I first analyzed it, and tried to determine what exactly I needed to figure out. Then, after gaining an understanding of the question I then when on to try, and visualize the actually "experiment" of pouring the lemon lime in the cola then back into the lemon lime several times to configure an answer. Also, as I was doing this I was re-reading the question to determine what would be the most suitable answer. Although, after taking some time just trying to visualize the experiment I wasn't completely satisfied with my conclusion so I decided that I needed to actually test my assumption that there was more lemon lime in the cola. My experiment involved the following:

Materials: 1/2 cup of Sweet Tea & 1/2 cup of Water with Propel Citrus Punch flavored water packet

1.) I took a tablespoon of the flavored water mix and added it to the sweet tea, and then mixed it throughly.
2.) Taste tested the sweet tea mixture with flavored water - tasted the flavored water for sure!
3.) Poured a tablespoon of the sweet tea mixture back into the water. After taste testing this mixture I did not taste the sweet tea at all.

CONCLUSION: There is more lemon lime in the cola. :0)

Animoto!

Today in class we covered the following:

1.) We registered with our Animoto account to begin creating our first Animoto video. We were to create an introduction video that was 30 seconds long with about 4-5 images with text. I think the most trouble people had with this was trying to decide what pictures they wanted to put into their show.

Here is a link to my video that I created. :0)

2.) Then, we went over the "Habits of Learning Taxonomy" powerpoint presentation that we will work on outside of class since we will not be meeting on 2/5/10 for class, and the project will be due 2/8/10. This project goes along with the Intel Module 1, Targeting Thinking in the Classroom.

Storage Issues

Name 4 places to save an electronic document and tell the pros and cons of each one.

1.) Fairmont Network Drive:
Pro - You can save onto a safe network, and not have to worry about keeping it on a flashdrive. Con - Its not as accessible if you are not on campus to save your work.

2.) Delicious:
Pro - You can easily access this social networking service through the Internet, and save websites to use in the future or share with other colleagues.
Con - You can't access your Delicious account unless you have internet access

3.) Desktop:
Pro - Do not need internet access or a USB drive to save.
Con - You can't access your desktop unless you are logged onto that specific desktop.

4.) USB Drive:
Pro - Easily be able to store multiple things in one storage place.
Con - If you store all your documents on your USB drive you could lose everything if you did not save it somewhere on a network place.
